2021 - Other Updates

5/15/21 MONTE MADE IT!!!

5/11/21 UM Grizzly Athletics, "Monte will not be able to attend the event this year. We were very hopeful that we would be able to get him out there but he has another campus commitment that we couldn’t work around on that day. We hope to get him at the event in the future!"

5/4/21 JD can help with acoustic sets until noon.

4/27/21 Package pick-up will be at the Missoula Vet Center 910 Brooks Street from 0900 to 1800 on May 14, 2021. Please pick-up event package (T-Shirt, Swag) on this date to ensure smooth participant flow the morning of the VSAP Event (FYI: The VSN Events CMTE will be filling the VSAP swag bags at the VFW on 5/7 - feel free to join us 3-5pm)
*** Sean Kavanaugh will be bringing his PA system to the event with a good mic and mic stand

*** Erick said the VA is 100% behind the event finally and is pushing to promote more; UM may be providing someone to play TAPS; Erick is contacting Lynda for 21 gun salute; The police dept also called wanting to support the event – Erick will ask if they’d like to bring a car for the kids; VA is having a 500 mile challenge for the month of May for VA employees to support their homeless program. If you’re interested in getting a team together, please contact Erick Kahila, MSW - HUD/VASH Case Manager, David J Thatcher CBOC (Missoula) | Montana VAHCS, 2685 Palmer Street, Suite B, Missoula, MT 59808; 406-493-3706, Cell: 406-202-5640, Erick.Kahila@va.gov

4/21/21 VSP, "Sean Kavanaugh (MSW) will be joining JD to perform some acoustic sets (they’ll be taking turns switching off). Ruthie at the American Legion has not responded to our request to use the podium, speaker/microphone, so we’ll be using the podium from the VFW."

4/20/21 VSN Leadership, Anton "check donations can be made out to VFW Post 209" and "We will be buying Jimmy Johns again this year" (AARP - Steve "called them and used my card")

4/16/21 Missoula Cruisers said they will put something together to cruise by the event sometime in the afternoon

3/30/21 VSN Leadership, "I do not think we will be able to get enough individuals for a BBQ and food service.  We talked about getting Jimmy Johns again for food.  I think getting volunteers for the event is going to be very difficult. Thoughts?"

3/30/21 UM Grizzly Athletics, "We are still unsure if Monte will be available that weekend due to a prior commitment. He is trying to adjust a few things in his calendar to get that weekend available!"

Questions - VSN Events Committee:

****** LAST YEAR: 2020 Heroes at Home & Military Appreciation OPEN HOUSE ******

The postponed event was held on September 19, 2020 at the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, Building T-316, Fort Missoula

  • It rained all day, but we had a GREAT time! Erick and Anton gave a brief welcome speech, Rob said a prayer, and Susannah sang the National Anthem.

  • The UM Marching Band played patriotic songs (along w/others) in the HMFM lawn and joined us for Jimmy John’s, Pepsi products, and individually wrapped cupcakes & cookies made by Terry Hale (WOW…so amazing!).

  • The kiddos (and adults) enjoyed Monte, the tank, AL train, and Cabela’s archery range.

  • Of the 27 service providers that had originally signed up to table, we had 12 show up (blame the rain / list of VSP & VOB below) – we appreciate you all SO MUCH!

  • Keely’s print of Miss Montana, Jennifer’s owls, the pistol/rifle lights, and a last minute wood flag by Dustoff Woodworking (VOB) were the big money makers in the silent auction – we appreciate all the donations for the SA, and if they weren’t claimed w/a bid, we’ll be keeping them for the next H@H & VSAP tentatively scheduled for May 2021

We ended the day with some Missoula Cruisers. Monte had a photo shoot with them. Link to the VSN photo album (the photos are public, so you don’t need a FB acct to view them): https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.3246083398840842&type=3&uploaded=41
